1.  I’M INTERESTED IN BUYING A NEW HOME. WHERE DO I START?

We’re excited to help you! Investing in a new home is an exciting process, and there are several steps along the way. The first step in the home purchase process is research. Since you’re here, you’re off to a great start! Our website offers a multitude of information on our homes including:

Once you design your home with our Interactive Dream Home Designer, just print the plan and visit one of our Community Specialists to select a home site and review the pricing information on your new home. Once you decide on a home, you will work with our award-winning Color Specialist to create your masterpiece.

2.  WHY SHOULD I BUY AN ELLIOTT HOME?

3.  WHAT MAKES ELLIOTT HOMES DIFFERENT THAN OTHER BUILDERS?

Elliott Homes team consists of employees that have a passion for great home designs, quality construction and a personal dedication to building relationships with our customers. We personalize both our homes and the entire building process to each of our homeowners and build the homes as if they are our own. We employ only the best tradesmen who are experts in their fields and adopt the same high standards and values that we work and live by. As for the home itself, we work with you to find the best plan to fit your needs. You’ll meet with a certified, award-winning Color Specialist to choose the finishes for your home to create your own unique design. 4.  DO Your homes come with a warranty?

Elliott Homes provides a one-year warranty on any latent defects not apparent or ascertainable at the time of closing in the building materials or workmanship. Beyond that, we offer a 6-year structural warranty. Elliott Homes’ goal is to satisfy our clients, and we will not hesitate to respond to customer concerns. 5.  HOW DO YOUR PRICES COMPARE TO OTHER BUILDERS?

We’re competitive in our pricing, especially when compared to other quality Builders. Most of our clients are amazed at the high-end finishes we provide as a standard in our homes. Combined with our process and quality control, the peace of mind they have is priceless. However, if you’re looking for the lowest price regardless of quality, we would not be a good fit. Elliott Homes will not sacrifice our brand for profit.

6.  WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE BASE PRICE?

7.  HOW LONG DOES IS TAKE TO BUILD A NEW HOME?

The amount of time necessary to build a home depends on several things. The largest factor is the weather, especially rain, which tends to slow construction progress. Other factors include the number of changes requested by the home buyer, the degree of difficulty encountered to initiate those changes and the size of the home. Typically, new homes take between 4-5 months which includes creating the floor plan, your design consultation with our Color Specialist, walk-throughs, and new home orientation. We also try to have several homes completed or in advanced stages of construction for a quicker move-in time. Don’t settle on a home because it’s available. One thing these home buyers have in common is that they either wish they would have waited or, they come back and buy a new home. If our move-in ready homes don’t suit your needs and you need a place to stay while we build your dream home, we have partnered with some of the top leasing agents on the coast to provide a beautiful month-to-month rental property.  See “While You Wait.”

8.  IS THE LAND INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF MY NEW HOME?

When building in an Elliott Homes’ community, the home site is included in your total investment. When building outside of our communities, we will work with you to find the best solution to financing whether it be a construction loan or Elliott Homes purchasing the land for you.

9.  WHAT IF WE ALREADY HAVE A HOME SITE TO BUILD ON?

Our team of professionals can check issues pertaining to the site and evaluate the feasibility of building.  This may include soil testing, topographical surveys, zoning regulations, and architectural review board guidelines, etc. Our team takes the guesswork out of the equation.

10.  I HAVE PICKED OUT A PLAN AND LIKE IT, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A FEW CHANGES.  DO YOU ALLOW CHANGES TO YOUR PLANS?

Our award-winning plans are value-engineered to improve the quality of life and provide the best value. This includes optimizing square footage, adding energy-efficient features and using modern, open-concept plans. Many changes may be made to the floor plans including modifying your master bath layouts, adding additional bedrooms and baths, even enclosing part of a covered patio into an extra room. Your New Home Specialist will work with you to find the best home to fit your needs.

11.  WE’RE THINKING ABOUT BUILDING A CUSTOM HOME BUT HAVE NEVER BUILT BEFORE. WHAT ARE THE THINGS WE SHOULD CONSIDER?

Elliott Homes offers luxury home plans that are value-engineered to provide a custom home feel without the custom home price. While these homes offer hundreds of possibilities, we also have a Custom Homes Division which specializes in building one-of-a-kind homes. To begin, you should have an idea of your location and research the online reputation of builders. Look for those who are experts in listening, collaborating and keeping you informed of your homes’ progress. When building a custom home, you need to be prepared to commit some time, especially in the planning stage.  This is where you meet with our team and create your list of “must haves,” “like to haves,” and “if we could only” features. Once you have designed your plan, you will meet with our Color Specialist to choose the finishes for your home and construction is under way. Our Customer Homes’ Manager, Jeremy Pierpont, will keep you informed of the progress along the way through communication and walk-throughs.

12.  CAN I PERSONALIZE MY NEW HOME?

Of course! This is your dream, so we want you to make it your own. In addition to choosing a floor plan, you can choose the exterior architectural style of your home (Elevation). Inside you can choose your kitchen and bath designs as well as other features. To further put your personal stamp on your brand-new home, you personalize the inside of by choosing the finishes including your flooring, appliances, countertops, cabinetry, paint colors, brick and much more.

13.  DO YOU HAVE MODELS TO TOUR OR HOMES UNDER CONSTRUCTION I CAN WALK THROUGH?

We have several fully furnished model homes open seven days a week to assist you with your dream home. There are single-story homes and two-story homes with first-floor owner retreats available to tour, all you have to do is stop by. Each of our locations is bound to have a construction open house in your area soon, if not this weekend. 14.  DO ANY OF YOUR PLANS OFFER ADDITIONAL SPACE FOR MY AGING MOTHER-IN-LAW, OR A COLLEGE STUDENT COMING BACK HOME? 

Yes, our Audrey plan has an option to create a multi-generational household, both with the same luxury finishes you would expect with an Elliott Home.

15.  ARE GARAGES INCLUDED IN THE SQUARE FOOTAGE?

We do not include garage space or covered porches in our square footage.

16.  CAN WE VISIT OUR NEW HOME WHILE IT’S UNDER CONSTRUCTION?

Building a home is an exciting time, and our team will send you updates via email during the construction. We realize that you would like to see the actual progress in person as well. For your safety as well as our contractor’s safety, we ask that you schedule visits with your New Home Specialist so that our contractors may plan ahead.

17.  HOW DO I FIND A BUILDER THAT I CAN TRUST?

The first step is to research online. Visit their website, search for reviews, Better Business Bureau ratings and see what people are saying on social media. Most importantly, ask for testimonials from current homeowners. This is a huge decision, so we highly recommend you do your homework.

18.  WILL YOU HELP ME CHOOSE MY FINISHES SUCH AS THE FLOORING, COUNTERTOPS, LIGHTING AND FIXTURES FOR MY NEW HOME?

Absolutely! That’s one of the most exciting times in the early planning stages of your home. Adrienne’s Design Studio features hundreds of high-end finishes available for your home. You will work with our award-winning Color Specialist, so there’s no need to run all over town to pick out your fixtures.  See some of the finishes available for your dream home in our Design Center Catalog.

19.  IS A NEW HOME A BETTER CHOICE THAN AN EXISTING HOME?

Yes! Every used house on the market will have something that’s just “not right” for you, something that you will have to settle for. We build with the latest energy-efficient HVAC systems that help to save money on your utility bills every month. Add to that the comfort and warmth they provide your family – and there’s just no need to compromise on anything else. A new home comes with a comprehensive warranty which provides peace of mind. The ability to create your masterpiece and have things just the way you want them is another benefit to investing in a brand-new home. 20.  IS IT FASTER TO REMODEL AN EXISTING HOME OR BUILD FROM SCRATCH?

Remodeling doesn’t usually take as long as building a brand-new home however; there are many drawbacks. The changes you are looking to make may not be possible based on the structural integrity of the home limiting your design options. Another challenge is living in the home during construction. If you have children or pets, having power tools and exposed wires laying around can be very dangerous. By building brand new, you have more flexibility with the floor plans and all of the work is done before you move in.

21.  I’VE HEARD BUILDING A NEW HOME IS OVERWHELMING, WHAT MAKES ELLIOTT HOMES DIFFERENT?

22.  WHAT SHOULD I BE AWARE OF WHEN LOOKING AT LOTS?

Always check to see if there are utilities in the area. For example, are gas and electric available to run to your home site?  If they are not in the area, you can spend thousands of dollars to run those services to your home.  Please remember, just because you see power lines on the lot, it does not mean there is a transformer to tie into.

23.  WHAT TYPE OF WINDOWS DO YOU USE?

Krestmark Windows which are double-pane, single hung, Low-E sunglass windowpanes that reduce the effect the sun has on the inside temperature. Elliott Homes has designed our homes for impressive energy-efficiency while adding lots of natural light. 24.  WHAT IS THE TONNAGE OF YOUR HVAC?

The size or tonnage of the HVAC for each of our designs is determined by an assessment of the local electric company and our HVAC contractor. The tonnage will vary from design to design to ensure the best energy efficiency as well as protecting the life of the unit which is 14 seers.

25.  WHAT IS A HOMEOWNER’S ASSOCIATION?

The Homeowner’s Association (HOA) is responsible for the maintenance of the overall community and its amenities. Functions of the HOA may include administration of the rules and regulations of the community; maintenance and upkeep of common areas. Typically, a fee is paid to the Homeowner’s Association by residents of the community which varies per community. Not all communities have an HOA. Please see our New Home Specialists for details.

26.  HOW DO I DETERMINE WHAT THE INTEREST RATE ON MY HOME LOAN WILL BE?

Many factors go into determining what the interest rate for a loan will be, so it is not at all surprising that you are asking this question. In most basic terms, an interest rate is a fee paid for borrowing money. Interest rates fluctuate daily based on economic conditions, and your interest rate will depend on you and your financial habits. Your interest rate will be determined based upon how much money you borrow; what type of loan you get; how long you plan to take to pay off the loan; your down payment amount; and finally, your credit rating. Our Preferred Lender will be more than happy to help you with your new home needs.

27.  WHAT OCCURS DURING CLOSING ON MY NEW CUSTOM HOME? 

30 days before closing on your new home you will receive weekly emails from Maegan Harder, our Customer Service Concierge, with helpful hints (setting up your utilities, cable, garbage disposal, obtaining homeowner’s insurance, etc.)  and information vital to closing. Your new home will be presented by our Warranty Manager and Superintendent. They will also review the warranty documentation (what is covered under warranty, schedule of warranty visits, etc.). The closing will occur much like an existing home sale closing.  You will receive your home binder including all your warranties, home information and of course the keys to your new home.

28.  DO YOU SELL YOUR FLOOR PLANS?

Our floor plans are not for sale. They were developed after years of preparation and discovery about how people live in and use their home. If you love our floor plans, please contact a New Home Specialist for details on building today.
